Amazon unveils Final Life with Shota Matsuda, Taemin

Amazon Prime Video has announced another Japanese original drama series, Final Life: Even If You Disappear Tomorrow, which will star Japan’s Shota Matsuda and K-pop star Taemin.

The 12-part series follows two men from wildly different backgrounds who come together as part of a secret special unit within the police force to solve a series of problematic cases. It will start streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime on September 8 with new episodes released every Friday.

Matsuda plays a detective who grew up in poverty and still grieves the loss of his brother, while searching for his missing mother. Taemin plays a man who is smart enough to graduate from a top medical college in the US, but is left with total amnesia following a brain experiment.

Taemin debuted in K-pop band Shinee in 2008, since when he has also acted in films and TV dramas and launched a career as a solo artist. Final Life is his first Japanese series. Matsuda has appeared in numerous TV dramas and has movie credits including Liar Game and Dias Police: Dirty Yellow Boys.

“We’re certain Prime members will become hooked on this thrilling yet poignant drama series with an unusual pair of leads from completely different backgrounds,” said Amazon Prime Video head of Asia Pacific content, James Farrell.

Executive produced by Fuji TV’s Yasuyuki Azuma, the series also stars actress Miori Takimoto, whose credits include the Japanese version of Korean TV drama You’re Beautiful; stage and TV actor Shigeyuki Totsugi; actress Maho Nomani (Moteki); and actor and variety show star Kenichi Honda.

Amazon’s Japanese originals also include the Kamen Rider Amazons series, Happy Marriage, Businessmen Vs. Aliens, Kyoto Love Story, the Crayon Shin-chan Spinoff series and The Bachelor Japan.
