Chinese streaming platform iQiyi has renewed crime drama Burning Ice, which the company produced with Han Sanping, for a second season.

Netflix has rights to the show for Australia and Asia Pacific (excluding China, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan). China’s Sansang Media has rights for North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Based on Chen Zijin’s novel Crime Without Trace, the first 12-episode season of the show, starring Qin Hao, has been a big hit for iQiyi racking more than 500 million views since its launch in September 2017.

Set in Harbin, the story follows a white-collar worker who becomes involved in a murder case, in order to protect the woman he loves, and is then regarded by the police as a suspect.

iQiyi also has adaptation rights to the other two novels in Chen’s crime trilogy – Bad Boy and The Long Night – which feature the same detective character.

The company also recently produced hit drama Tientsin Mystic, which was sold to Netflix along with regional streaming platforms and broadcasters, and has also been ordered for a second season.
