One Chance to debut on Yahoo Screen

Following its VOD success with Snowpiercer, The Weinstein Company (TWC) is releasing UK comedy Once Chance exclusively through Yahoo Screen 10 days before its theatrical release.

The movie will be available to Yahoo Screen customers for free – a release strategy aimed squarely at younger viewers who are more likely to watch it on a computer screen. TWC has set the US theatrical release for August 29.

Directed by David Frankel (Hope Springs), One Chance tells the true story of Paul Potts, a winner on UK reality TV show Britain’s Got Talent. James Corden stars as Potts and the cast also includes Julie Walters, Mackenzie Crook and Colm Meaney.

Yahoo Screen was launched in June 2006 as Yahoo Video and rebranded as Yahoo Screen in 2011. Although not as high-profile as competitors such as Amazon and Netflix, the streaming service has invested in original content including Burning Love, a spoof of reality TV dating shows, produced by Ben Stiller.

In June 2014, Yahoo Screen announced it had acquired former NBC sitcom Community for its sixth season.

Snowpiercer reportedly made $2m in its first week on VOD, just two weeks after the film’s North American theatrical release.
