Amazon pulls Disney pre-orders

Amazon has halted pre-orders for DVDs and Blu-ray discs from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, in what appears to be a spat over terms with the studio.

Among the titles currently unavailable to pre-order are Maleficent, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Muppets Most Wanted.

However Amazon is offering digital pre-orders for the titles via its streaming service Amazon Instant Video. DVDs and Blu-rays of some Disney titles that have already been released are also available on the site.

Amazon had a similar spat earlier this year with Warner Bros when it stopped taking pre-orders of titles including Transcendence, The Lego Movie and 300: Rise Of An Empire. The two companies eventually resolved their disagreement but didn’t disclose terms.

Amazon is also engaged in a long-running and high-profile dispute with publisher Hachette Book Group over pricing of e-books. The e-commerce company is not taking pre-orders of Hachette titles and is delaying shipments by up to four weeks.
