Chopflix launches OTT platform for Asian content

LA-based distributor Asia Releasing is launching an OTT platform featuring more than 1,000 Asian titles and powered by Vimeo On Demand

In addition to its library, Chopflix will publish up to six exclusive, first release titles per month to its website, which will be simultaneously released to the Vimeo on Demand platform.

The platform is targeting the 100 million Asians that live outside of the region, along with western audiences who have an appetite for Asian film and TV.

The product will include Japanese anime, Korean drama, big-budget Chinese and Hong Kong action films, Bollywood titles, Thai martial arts series, comedies from Malaysia and horror films from Singapore.

Chopflix chairman & CEO Milt Barlow said: “I have been passionately involved in the distribution of Asian product in the west for the past eight years in Australia, New Zealand and North America through various entities including China Lion Entertainment which pioneered the reintroduction of Chinese theatrical releases in North America.

“Chopflix will take advantage of the new efficient delivery technologies to be able to provide a wider footprint to all Asians residing outside Asia as well as giving high quality ‘best of Asia’ movies to western audiences.”

Sam Toles, Vimeo’s VP of content acquisitions and business development, said: “The team at Vimeo have passionately embraced Chopflix from the get go and on launch this will be the world’s largest pan-Asian entertainment destination.”

Barlow was formerly president and CEO of Village Roadshow Entertainment and a founding partner of China Lion Entertainment.
