Hulu, Lionsgate swoop on Sundance title Joshy
Lionsgate and Hulu have joined forces to acquire North American rights to Jeff Baena’s Joshy, which world premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
The film will be released on Lionsgate’s specialty distribution label Lionsgate Premiere, before streaming exclusively on Hulu following its theatrical run.
Produced by Liz Destro, Michael Zakin and Adam Pally, the comedy about inept male bonding premiered in the US Dramatic Competition at Sundance. The film’s ensemble cast includes Thomas Middleditch, Adam Pally, Alex Ross Perry, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman and Jenny Slate.
The story follows a hard-partying bachelor who decides to go ahead with his stag party when his engagement ends badly. Executive producers include Starstream’s Kim Leadford and Charles Bonan and Bow and Arrow Entertainment’s Michael Sherman and Matthew Perniciaro.
Baena, who wrote and directed, made his debut in 2014 with Life After Beth, which also played at Sundance and was produced by Destro, Zakin and Starstream.
Lionsgate is already working with Hulu on four original television series and licenses content to the platform via Epix.
