Hulu takes US rights to Neighbours
Hulu has acquired exclusive US rights to Australian soap opera Neighbours from global programming giant FremantleMedia International.
The show will be streamed on Hulu’s US ad-supported service and Hulu Plus subscription service from July 14. Daily episodes will be streamed from Monday to Friday. The five weekly episodes will air four weeks after broadcast in Australia.
During Neighbours‘ first week in the US, the show will feature a guest appearance by actress and singer Paula Abdul.
Produced by FremantleMedia’s Australian arm, the show is hugely popular in Australia and the UK, but has never built an audience in the US. First broadcast in 1985, it has featured many Australian stars, including Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Margot Robbie and Liam Hemsworth, in the early stages of their careers.
“Neighbours provides a delicious daily dose of Australian sunshine to soap-opera fans, and thanks to Hulu, we’re coming to the US at a perfect entry point for first-time viewers,” said FremantleMedia VP digital distribution and home entertainment Jeff Siegel.
