Lionsgate extends output deal with iQiyi
Lionsgate has signed a new long-term output deal for library titles and upcoming films, including Robin Hood and Patriots Day, with Chinese streaming platform iQiyi.
The two companies first signed a deal in October 2015 that cover titles such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, Allegiant and Now You See Me 2. iQiyi also served as Lionsgate’s promotional partner on the theatrical release of Now You See Me 2, which became the highest-grossing Lionsgate film ever released in China.
Under the new deal, iQiyi will have exclusive SVOD, TVOD and AVOD rights for the Lionsgate titles and has also pledged to launch a major promotional commitment to them on its platform.
Otto Bathurst’s Robin Hood, stars Jamie Foxx and Taron Egerton, while Pete Berg’s Patriots Day, about the Boston Marathon bomber, stars Mark Wahlberg.
The deal also covers The Glass Castle, starring Brie Larson, Naomi Watts and Woody Harrelson; Lionsgate/CBS Films’ counter-terrorism thriller American Assassin, starring Michael Keaton; and Wonder starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay (The Room).
“We have collaborated with iQiyi on the promotion and distribution of some of our biggest releases in China, and our new agreement represents a great opportunity to bring a slate of blockbuster films and a deep portfolio of library titles to one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the world,” said Lionsgate EVP of international sales Wendy Reeds.
