Marco Polo starts shooting for Netflix

Production has started on Netflix original series Marco Polo, created by John Fusco and produced by the The Weinstein Company (TWC).

Based on the advertures of the 13th century explorer, the ten-episode first series is shooting in Italy, Kazakhstan and the new Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios (PIMS) in Malaysia. Netflix plans to premiere the series in late 2014.

The global cast of the series includes Italy’s Lorenzo Richelmy (Il Terzo Tempo) as Marco Polo, Benedict Wong (Prometheus), Zhu Zhu (Cloud Atlas), Tom Wu (Skyfall), Remy Hii (Treading Water) and Rick Yune (Olympus Has Fallen).

Fusco, who wrote Rob Minkoff’s martial arts action movie Forbidden Kingdom, will exective produce with Harvey Weinstein and Dan Minahan. Directors on the series include Joachim Ronning, Espen Sandberg and Minahan. Collin Creighton will produce on behalf of TWC.
